Earlsfield grew out of a deal struck in 1884. The Davis family sold land for a station on the London and South Western Railway on condition it carried their house's name; the line had run through since 1838 without stopping, and once the trains halted, Garratt Lane began filling with terraces. Twelve minutes to Waterloo still shapes the district — commuters by day, young families everywhere else, and a high street that punches above its size.

The housing is consistent and honest: two-storey Victorian terraces from the 1880s and 1890s, bay-fronted and brick, with post-war infill between them and a growing line of new flats along Garratt Lane itself. Most of our briefs are whole-house repaints — hall, stairs, landing, four or five rooms — where the craft sits in stabilising old ceilings, easing sticking sashes, and cutting woodwork back to a sharp edge that decades of gloss has buried. The lane itself is older than everything on it. It shadows the route of the horse-drawn Surrey Iron Railway from the early 1800s, past the River Wandle — which turns roughly parallel to Garratt Lane and once drove medieval mills — and through old Garrat, notorious for its 18th-century mock elections. Industry left quietly: Airfix made its model kits at Haldane Place from 1939 to 1981. Now the same stretch offers the Tara Theatre, independent cafés, and the library, with King George's Park and Garratt Green giving the district room to breathe.

Clients here are usually doing up a first family house, so the conversations stay practical: low-odour water-based paint so bedrooms stay usable, sheeting done properly rather than perfunctorily, sequencing that keeps a nursery and a bathroom live throughout.
